THE NHBP TRIBUTE WALL

 “FireKeepers Casino Hotel is proud to announce the installation of a captivating mural to pay tribute to the rich history and culture of their owners, the Nottawaseppi Huron Band of the Potawatomi Tribe (NHBP). This awe-inspiring mural, spanning an impressive 56 feet in width and standing over 8 feet tall, will feature more than 60 meticulously crafted images, offering a captivating historical timeline of the Tribe and provides a unique glimpse into the lives of tribal members. Months of careful preparation and a collaborative endeavor between the NHBP Culture Department, Culture Committee Leaders, and FireKeepers Casino have culminated in this extraordinary masterpiece, which serves as a cherished symbol of the NHBP’s journey from the past to the present day, preserving their heritage for generations to come.”

About BB Saunders

Introduction

Having started young in the black and white darkrooms, Brittany has been doing freelance art (graphic design & photography) for 20+ years. She has 6+ years of formal university/college training. She enjoys a good challenge, long, complex projects, and helping others succeed in their business and artistic endeavors.

Other than the schools listed above Brittany also took college level classes in high school at Kendall School of Art and Design, Kellogg Community College, and Grand Rapids Community College. She earned many honors and awards for her art and grades at KVCC and many solo and group gallery shows featuring her fine art photography, retouching, and graphic design (see next section).

FIREKEEPERs CASINO HOTEL: 2022 – 2024

In the fall of 2022 Brittany started as a full-time graphic artist at FireKeepers Casino Hotel and has been working there since. At FireKeepers Brittany is part of the back of house marketing team. She has been working on a multitude of digital, multimedia, and print collateral for internal and external projects. Projects ranging from social media posts, custom emails, updating the website, digital and print billboards/marquees (our digital marquee is the largest in the Midwest), motion graphics, logo design, fancy invites, birthday cards, and more... her favorite being a 56' wall installation at the casino showcasing the Nottawaseppi Huron Potawatomi Tribe's history and culture. TribalHub & TribalNet: 2017 – 2022

From mid-2017 to spring 2021 she worked as the in-house graphic designer for TribalHub & TribalNet (located in Portage, MI). While working with their motivated, small team, Brittany expanded her skillset to include motion graphics, video editing and compilation, audio/podcast editing, interactive forms, splash page design, infographics, and digital magazine publication. She has had contact with marketing/design departments from many Native American organizations and large tech companies while designing the TribalNet Magazine. Brittany was also the primary print contact for all printed material. Additionally, she was the official event photographer for their Annual TribalNet Conference & Tradeshow from 2017 to 2019.

After leaving TribalHub in the spring of 2021 she was contracted by TribalNet to design three magazines (eBook and print) and the annual conference & tradeshow program.

In 2022 she worked on the spring magazine for TribalNet and did freelance design (mostly logos and branding). Brittany started working at FireKeepers Casino Hotel after that.

Asylum Lake Press & Freelance: 2011 – 2016

OWNER & OPERATOR OF ASYLUM LAKE PRESS, LLC (Single Employee)

Asylum Lake Press was located in the Park Trades Center and offered a low-cost printing and design solution for artists, non-profits, and small businesses in the Kalamazoo area (open through 2014). During this time Brittany worked with 150+ local artists and 50+ small businesses & non-profits. As a member of the Exquisite Corpse Artist Collective (located in the Park Trades Center) from 2011 to 2014 she helped curate and hang monthly gallery shows during the Kalamazoo Art Hop. After that she continued freelance photography, graphic design, and artist services.

SERVICES: Magazines, books, business cards, labels, brochures, postcards, posters, custom CD cases, press kits, catalogs, invitations, art reproduction, resumes and calendars for several Kalamazoo small business owners, non-profit organizations, musicians, and fine artists. 90% client referral rate.

Asylum Lake Magazine: 2009 – 2013

ART DIRECTOR AND GRAPHIC DESIGNER OF ASYLUM LAKE MAGAZINE

In 2009 Brittany co-founded, designed, and printed a non-profit, Kalamazoo-based literary and visual arts publication named Asylum Lake Magazine. She was in charge of all visual content for the magazine, compilation of content from various editors, photography, page layout/design, printing, and assembly. In addition Brittany helped lead meetings, plan events for release parties, create promo pieces, and was deemed the official "cat herder" of the ever-changing group of artsy volunteers. She completed ten issues over three years (she was the only person to contribute to all ten) working with and featuring 100+ local artists. Issues of the magazine were sold at the Michigan News Agency, the Kalamazoo Food Co-op, and other various small book shops and coffee houses. After being awarded a professional large format, color, digital laser printer from Xerox (sponsored for four years) she opened Asylum Lake Press, LLC in 2011.
